Dear Parents,
I am
happy to report that we had another successful week in room 207! The students
are working hard to be responsible. I’ve seen evidence of this through students
returning to school with their Click Books every day and by staying focused
during lessons. The scores on the Missouri Cities quiz is evidence of this
focus. We had 12
students earn 100%, and a total of 16 students earned an A. That’s
incredible!
While the
focus of the first few weeks of school is on forming good work habits, staying
on task, and building class relationships, this week we’ve been able to shift
some of that focus onto learning. I really appreciate the way our
students come to school each day energized and ready to learn. Our class is
definitely putting cooperation into practice! This makes each day an adventure
in the classroom.
With that being said,
however, I think this first Math Check-Up may have been a wake-up call for many
students. Has your child brought their Morning Work to you to go over
missed problems? We encourage students to take charge of their learning
in this way along with asking questions in class when they don’t understand.
Remember, Morning Work is practice, and practice makes perfect! As you’ve seen
this week, Check-Ups come from Morning Work. I do
require a signature
from a parent on anything below a 70%. Also, students who score
70% and below are allowed to correct the Check-up for a maximum of 2 extra
points. (This week, I worked with students to make those corrections, but
time won’t always allow for this.)
The Wacky
Wednesday letter editing is coming home today also. The Wacky Wednesday
was just practice this
week. I did grade it and put their percentage on it. I want to
stress again that although it appears that I did, I DID NOT take it for a
grade. The Wacky Wednesday is an editing quiz in the format of a friendly
letter. We will do it EVERY Wednesday. I put the percentage on
their paper because starting next week, anyone who scores below a 70% will be
required to rewrite the letter correctly for homework. If it does not
come back on Monday, that student will be required to complete it at
recess. It is amazing how quickly those grades go up after one week of
having to rewrite the letter.
Thanks for your support with this. You can expect to see these come home
in the take home folders on Friday.
Finally, Thursday, August
29th sack lunches will be served in the cafeteria.
Students will be practicing an Intruder drill during their lunch time.
I hope you have a chance
for lots of rest and relaxation this weekend!
Working Together,
Ms. Tammy Myers
